A Light Bulb Went Off
Last Updated on November 15, 2023 by ESAReviewsComplaints
One day the single florescent light bulb in the bathroom stopped working. It was already pretty horrible- very dim, in a bathroom that might not be up to code. I built a house in the 90s, and the builder told me that if there is no window in the bathroom, you must have ventilation, which meant an electric fan in the ceiling. You won’t find a fan here, except for the 12 incher I brought myself to blow steam out of the room when I’m in the shower. The only ventilation in the bathroom is a rectangular hole in the wall that leads to the bathroom in the next room. But I digress.
Getting back on track, as I said, the light went out. I asked the clerk if they would fix it. She said, “Sure.”
So…
A few weeks later I asked again. The clerk said that they don’t have a light bulb, but MaintenanceMan1 is going to the store, that very day, to buy one for my bathroom.
So…
Over the next few weeks I bought a light fixture for the bathroom. It didn’t work well, so I shopped for another. This time, I designed my own. It works much better than the installed one that is over the bathroom mirror and it was low price. And wouldn’t you know, one day weeks later after I had forgotten about it, MaintenanceMan1 came in and replaced the florescent bulb.
Can you believe it? I am not lying about it. He actually got a bulb and brought it to the room. Unbelievable! He even INSTALLED IT!
He said, “Here’s a spare in case you need it,” and leaned it against the wall next to the bed. I ended up taking it back to the office because this man, outside of my room WAS VERY, VERY UNPLEASANT TOWARDS ME, so I took it to the office (not him, and not that they were friendly in the office, but they don’t abuse you with words like this guy does) because if the light went out again, I did not have tools to raise myself above the sink and mirror to remove the cover and bulb, and replace it with the new bulb in the overly dusty atmosphere which has the same dust on it that was here long before I arrived, years ago. There’s no shortage of old dust. You’ll see seven year old dust in the galleryLINK.
As with most things at the hotel, you are at THEIR mercy. Of which they don’t even have. Have I mentioned yet that they’ve had five managers in six years and that numbers 1, 2, and 5 spend most of their time, and their employees’ time, playing their games? It’s truly a monopoly.
And I probably would’ve ended up using my own time to remove some of the many layers of dust and dirt and cobwebs for them just to find the holes where the bulb fits in.
You might be able to tell, that I don’t really care to do the work other people have promised you they will do, and who even write a contract to give to you to prove that they do what they say they will do. They don’t. In fact, they don’t even care that the abuse they put on you expands to other guests…
Guests have no idea that they had to stand in line for an hour because of “computer problems” directed at me. This is all probably evident by now if you’ve read any other articles on Extended Stay America Reviews. But they do spend an awful lot of time playing games. It seems to be all they do. All day. All night. There is nothing like a few good games to keep me awake. It’s how I got my bags.
Can’t find anything in the contract about playing games. There really is not a thing they do for a guest’s comfort, in fact, they spend most of their time at work doing just the opposite.
A Similar Ordeal
Had a similar time with the tiny bulb over the kitchen burners. To avoid the delay I replaced it four times. Each time I replaced it, it never lasted more than a few days. I decided to give up, but eventually they got a new maintenance man, known as MaintenanceMan2. He replaced it, and it has been working fine for a couple of years.
