Do You Need Anything?

Housekeeping would come by the room. It could happen at any time. In my case, they knew my schedule and would often come just as I got back from being gone all day at almost 5pm. Because I had asked, before, if they, would do housekeeping on the particular day that I would always be away from the room

At any time- one or two giggling housekeepers would come to the door and ask, “Do you need anything?” Half the time they didn’t even have the cart with them.

It seemed to me, because THEY ALL phrased it that way, that management told them what to say. Phrased like that, they WANT you to say something like, “Yes, just a box of tissues.” (Another benefit for customers removed. You now have to buy your own tissues.) It’s just another manipulation in their favor so that they don’t have to go to all that trouble- TO CLEAN YOUR ROOM! That is how it looks to me. Don’t know if others “felt” the same message or not.)

I think it is a statement (manipulation) that is designed to get an answer that they want, that has nothing to do with actual service. It allows them to pretend that they are offering housekeeping, when they really hope you will just ask for supplies. And makes it easy to say, “Well the guest did not want his room cleaned. The guest only wanted some supplies.”

Maybe I AM crazy.

In addition, they will want to blame the dirt in this room on me. They will say, “We came to your room to clean, but you refused. That makes it your fault.”

But they leave out the fact that they would come with no warning, at whatever time they felt like it, with ABSOLUTELY NO CONCERN AS TO WHETHER YOU ARE INVOLVED WITH SOMETHING THAT REQUIRES YOU TO STAY IN PLACE. It’s all very tricky.
